Brian was called up after rosters expanded in September and was ineligible for the postseason. However, an injury to Willie Randolph forced the Yankees to seek permission from MLB and their post-season opponents (Kansas City Royals and Los Angeles Dodgers) to allow him to be added to the postseason roster. Neither team must have thought much about it, given his .192 average. While he managed two hits in seven ALCS at-bats, he went on to hit .438 in the World Series. His seven hit performance was mostly compacted into the final two games. He went 3-for-5 in Game Six with two runs scored in a Yankees 12-2 win. Then, he went 3-for-4 in the Game Six clincher with two runs and two RBI. His second inning double scored Graig Nettles to open up the Yankee seven run attack and plate the first of three runs in that inning. The Yankees never looked back and went on to a 7-2 win and the 1978 World Championship.
