Trade: Doyle was acquired on June 15, 1976 from the Baltimore Orioles in a ten player trade. In addition to the 25-year old Alexander, the Yankees acquired left handed pitcher Jimmy Freeman who never pitched a game for the Yankees, catcher Ellie Hendricks, lefty Ken Holtzman and lefty reliever Grant Jackson who was terrific down the stretch.

The players the Yankees sent to Baltimore were left handed pitchers Rudy May, Scott McGregor and Tippy Martinez, righty Dave Pagan and catcher Rick Dempsey.

Highlights

Highlights: Courtesy of his trade in mid-1976, Doyle was able to appear in his first and only World Series. He got the starting nod in Game One where he surrendered five runs and nine hits in six innings and was tagged with the loss. He was a surprise starter, especially since he hadn't pitched in 21 days and saw no action in the ALCS. Most people assumed Ken Holtzman would start game one, but the always surprising Billy Martin decided against it. For his career, Alexander was 0-5 in the postseason.
