Acquired: June 15, 1958: Duke was traded by the Kansas City Athletics with Virgil Trucks to the New York Yankees for Bob Grim and Harry Simpson.

Shirley C. from Chester, VA wrote: "I dated Duke in VA in 1961, his last year, when he was with the Yankee farm system. Hal Stowe and Lamar North were two of our friends. Duke never told me about his pitching career. I was totally dumb about it until I saw his death mentioned on the internet this year. I was told he had crippling arthritis the following year. I was still attending ball games. I was so sad and shocked. He just seems to stay in my head all the time.  He never bragged or told me anything about the World Series. He taught me how to love baseball. I know he was supposed go to the Angels, but his arm just gave out.  One of the best times of my life was watching him in the bullpen. I hope we can meet again. I bet you're pitching shutouts in heaven."  (Editor's Note:  Duke passed away on December 7, 1976 at the age of 47.)
