Notes: Paul from Wading River reported that he found a scorecard from September 25, 1970 listing Gary Jones as wearing #56. It's very possible he wore both #39 and #56. I'm thinking he was originally assigned the higher #56 as a September call-up, then switched to #39 after long-time #39, Steve Hamilton, went to the White Sox after being selected off waivers.

• Gary appeared in 14 games for his entire career, spanning 2 appearances in 1970 and 12 in 1971. Oddly, he never appeared in a game that the Yankees won, the team record being 0-14 in games in which Jones appeared. It wasn't his fault, though. He was never tagged for a loss. He came close to appearing in a winning game on May 21, 1971. In a back-and-forth affair in Cleveland, the Yankees took a 7-6 lead into the bottom of the ninth, but the Indians scored two runs on four hits off Lindy McDaniel, the winning run being plated on a single by pinch hitter Gomer Hodge.
